Newhaven prepares for scale up process

Newhaven is emerging as a hot-spot of small and medium sized companies with proven business models that are on the cusp of an impressive growth phase.

A business support programme, specifically for companies in the Newhaven area launched earlier this year, has revealed the first round of successful applicants, and uncovered a treasure-trove of exciting, innovative and creative enterprises.

Seven companies have been selected for the Scale Up East Sussex (Newhaven) programme following a round of applications and interviews. “The key attribute we are looking for is ambition, with a desire and belief that the companies could, with a little help, grow the business by at least 50% in the next 3 years,” says project lead Gavin McWhirter.

The project is being managed by Gavin McWhirter of Digital Islands, an economic development and growth acceleration company specialising in start-ups and early-stage companies.

The 7 companies selected for this project are Tin Tab, CTEC Energy, Paul Cox Sculptures, ValetPRO, Lincolns Kitchen and Granite, MyTeamSafe, and Arbeco.

Scale Up East Sussex (Newhaven) is one of three Scale Up programmes of
support for ambitious companies in the county. Companies benefit from 1 to 1 support in developing a growth action plan, membership of a business network exclusively for participants of the growth programme, and identification of a mentor to work with the leader of each company. The current phase of the project is being provided at no cost to the companies, thanks to government funding.
