This new award has been launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Seahaven Business Awards.

This year a new award for business will be presented to recognise a company who has traded successfully for 20+ years. The award has been crafted by goldsmith Mike Shorer.

The Lifetime Gold Business Award

The Lifetime Gold Business Award is a very special award and has been sponsored by Tomsetts Distribution of Newhaven who are themselves celebrating 50 years in business in 2025.

This award will be judged by our guest judge for 2025, Ana Christie, CEO of the Sussex Chamber of Commerce. The Lifetime Gold Business Award is open to other award sponsors to enter.

We expect levels of entry for this award will be high and have therefore put together some helpful criteria for those entering.

Companies entering should consider:

Outstanding commitment as an employer: Demonstrating dedication to employee well-being, development, and creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture.

Clear leadership and strategic thinking: Consistently showing visionary leadership, effective decision-making, and a strategic approach to achieving long-term success.

Innovation and passion for their industry: Pioneering new ideas, products, or services while maintaining a genuine enthusiasm and drive to excel within their sector.

Corporate social responsibility: Actively upholding ethical practices, playing an active role in enhancing the local community through support, sponsorships, or charitable initiatives.

Exceptional customer service: Delivering outstanding customer experiences, fostering loyalty, and maintaining strong relationships over decades.

Sustainability practices: Embedding environmental stewardship and sustainable practices into the company’s operations and ethos.

Financial resilience: Demonstrating the ability to adapt and thrive despite economic challenges or industry shifts, ensuring long-term stability and growth.

Legacy and mentorship: Supporting the next generation of businesses by sharing expertise, offering guidance, and promoting knowledge transfer.

We wish you all every success and you can enter online, or put in a hard copy entry together with an entry form.

How the Lifetime Gold Business Award was made.

We asked Mike Shorer, President of Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, and renowned goldsmith and jeweller how he made the award and what gave him the inspiration.

To celebrate the 20th Seahaven Business Awards, I felt the new category deserved some real bling, so I pulled out all the stops to use a decorative technique never-before seen on any trophy. Plique-a-jour enamelling, translated from French as ‘letting in daylight’, is similar to stained glass windows in that it is only held in at the edges.

Having designed the funky lettering it was pierced (sawn out) from a circular sheet by hand using a blade as thin as a human hair.

The disc was then textured with an unusual tool for a Goldsmith, a 4 ½” angle grinder. The effect creates a dazzling play of light as the trophy is moved.

Pure silver was added to the surface to make it really pop!

The piece-de-resistance is the multi-coloured dichroic iridescent film encapsulated in a special UV enamel. This was delicately added to the letters and numbers. The riot of colours visible when light shines onto and through it is quite insane. Many thanks to fellow artist Wendy of Toonpish, whose skills have produced this stunning enamelling.
