Awards evening donations presented to Seaford Downs Syndrome & Special Needs Support Group

The organisers of the 2026 Seahaven Business Awards were delighted to present a cheque for £2,000 to Seaford Downs Syndrome and Special Needs Support Group (SDSNSG), the event’s chosen charity.

The fantastic total was raised through the generosity of guests, sponsors and supporters at this year’s awards evening, with an additional £600 donation from Elite Industries helping to boost the final amount.

Mike Shorer and Annie Lorys, President and Vice-President of Newhaven Chamber presented the cheque to representatives of the charity at one of their regular Saturday sessions, giving members of the Newhaven Chamber of Commerce the opportunity to see first-hand the positive impact the group has on local families.

During the presentation, Dave Brown explained that the support group is about far more than activities for children. Every volunteer is the parent of a child with special educational needs, creating a welcoming community where families can share experiences, support one another and realise they are not facing the challenges of raising a child with additional needs alone.

The monthly sessions provide a safe, relaxed environment where children can enjoy a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, soft play, sensory music, bike riding, gaming, a lending library and much more. Equally important, they offer parents and carers the chance to meet others who understand their day-to-day experiences.

There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the afternoon, with children enthusiastically taking part in activities while parents chatted over refreshments. It was clear to see why the group is such a valued resource for families across the Seahaven area.

The Seahaven Business Awards have always been about celebrating local businesses while giving something back to the local community. All three local Chambers are involved in the Awards and we are proud that this year’s event was able to support such a worthwhile Seaford organisation.

The Chamber would like to thank everyone who attended the awards, donated during the evening, sponsored the event and helped make this contribution possible.
