Breakfast Club Networking
This week’s ten minute speaker is Lee Gander, Natural England Nature Reserve Manager for East Sussex
One of the sites that Lee runs, Lullington Heath, which is situated between Eastbourne and Seaford. It is a site of national importance as it contains one of the largest areas of chalk heathland in the country but sadly they are on the verge of losing this unique habitat.
This is due in part to under management in recent years bought about because of restrictions placed on it by the land owner as well as severe under funding from the government during these recent times of austerity. These management restrictions have now been lifted and so Natural England are looking to start the recovery of the site.
Working in partnership with the South Downs National Park, South East Water, the Forestry Commission and Butterfly Conservation they are putting together the plans and financing to see the site start to return to its former glory in the next few years.
With this in mind they are also reaching out to local business’ who may want to be a part of this feel good story as well. Lee and a colleague will come and give a short talk and presentation about this work and to see if there will be support for their work?
This may just be an individual contribution with one or two happy to make a donations but it could also potentially be a group of local companies coming together to facilitate environmental change for the better, potentially under your banner.
The majority of the funding will hopefully come from capital works bids they have put in for the coming years that will be matched by their partners and so any additional funding gained through this route would help them to further their plans and activities rather than sustain it.
